Pharmaceutical sales is a highly competitive field. It is next to impossible to penetrate the industry unless you have sales training and experience. But if you are looking for a career change it may be a good place to look for opportunities. Pharmaceutical companies sometimes look outside of pure sales professionals in those with degrees in other vocations.

If you have a degree in anything scientific it’s a good tip to look to pharmaceutical sales as another career source for opportunities. Also if you have good customer service training or prior management training it is wise to look into this career.

Most people want to get into pharmaceutical sales because it is a very lucrative career. Most representatives make not only a base salary but also bonuses and are sometimes provided with a company car.

It’s not all roses however; most pharmaceutical representative work requires a lot of working from your car, and not necessarily having a home base. And a lot of event planning of sorts.

Out going people with sales training are usually the ones that thrive in the atmosphere that pharmaceutical sales provides. But showing a willingness to learn and an interest in the company’s product can be helpful as well.
