Admitting Addiction is First Step in Drug Rehab

Society | Posted by admin
Jun 14 2010

If you are concerned that you are demonstrating signs of drug and or alcohol addiction, this is not a message that you should take lightly. In fact, the first thing you should do is thank and even congratulate yourself for posing the question. The second thing is to remember that it takes more courage to seek assistance with the problem than it does to pretend like it doesn’t exist, meaning to ignore or it, or try to handle it on your own. Unfortunately, the majority of people have an initial belief that it shows weakness to admit you have a problem. This is one of the common misconceptions about substance abuse that is extremely destructive and only leads to great instances of addiction and generally assures that treatment will not be sought.

One of the best ways to counter the misguided belief is to stress the fact that addiction is a disease , it is not a character flaw or form of personal weakness. And seeking treatment requires strength and courage, to ignore or deny the problem is the much weaker response. This is frequently a difficult thing to accept, and that is frequently part of the denial process.

However, participants of non-court ordered drug rehab treatment centers have almost always accepted the fact that they have a problem before they enter the facility. And while this is an essential aspect of recovery, it is just the beginning of a long process. Depending on the specific drug that you are addicted to the extent of your program can vary. Regardless, your in house treatment is focused on getting you through the psychological withdrawal phases and also to start processing the effects of addiction as well as potential triggers that can cause a relapse. In house treatment will also be oriented toward developing some coping skills that can be put to use back in the real world, where additional outpatient counseling or twelve step meeting attendance will likely be recommended.

All of the above topics, the island’s turbulent history and its associations to Greek mythology can be studied at the Ionian University , which is located on the island. The university was established in 1984, which makes it relatively new and it continues to gain respect and recognition. And students from around the world are becoming interested in it. And aside from the quality programs it offers, this is understandable as many people include the location destination as one of the fundamental features in choosing a school. South Africa is a very diverse country, one the most multi-cultural nations in the entire world. Many groups of different ethnicity live together and work together, in business such as a local restaurant or marketplace, a farm to a boutique hotel. Cape Town residents and all those living in the various cities must have rules of etiquette to avoid offending those with which they spend so much time. As well as the indigenous tribes of the region, immigration has brought in those from China, India, and white Europeans. These are all cultures that are drastically different from one another. It is difficult to outline a general set of etiquette, as a result of the great diversity, however for those traveling or moving to the country there are some guidelines.

The family unit is of utmost importance. Extended family members are considered close, as close as the nuclear family ties. Many of the people are moving to the larger cities such as Johannesburg and Cape Town, from their small villages in search of work and the opportunities provided in those cities, and it is quite common for those in the cities to continue to support those members still living in their hometowns.

There is quite a difference in those that are living in the urban districts and those living in the rural communities. Those living in the cities live in the fast paced world common to all large cities of the world. Those in the cities are sometimes regarded as materialistic, opposite of those on the farms and in the small villages, who are characterized as valuing the human decency over economic wealth and material gain. City dwellers are known in some cases to view those on the farms, as less sophisticated, which is true in many societies, not just those in South Africa. All the friendships and relationships of the cultures rely on the understanding and respect of the customs and the traditions of those they live amongst.

There are many different cultures and people of various ethnic backgrounds living within the city-state of Singapore. The tolerance of religious belief is a necessary characteristic of the citizens and something that is second nature to all those living together. Many times the religions of the world cross any boundaries concerning race and belief systems, and merge in unexpected ways. This is true of so many aspects of the various cultures that have immigrated over the years and continue to do so, from the arts, to the cooking…this is a region of Asia that is not only becoming accustomed to the melting pot, but embracing the diversity of all people.

Many younger generations still follow the traditions and respect the mysteries of the ancient ways, but also combine those traditions with the way of the world today. Again, the modern relies on the ancient and the ancient supports and validates the modern, even in architecture as it is commonplace to pass on any give street, modern and smooth lines on five star hotels, Singapore traditional temples, or exotic and elaborately constructed mosques. In fact most of the most innovative and/or interesting architecture of the city is in the buildings that are the religious houses of worship, of all faiths. It is one of the many ways Singapore celebrates artistic creations and endeavors.

Chinese temples are quite numerous, and varied. The Taoists, and Buddhists make up a large percentage of the population as well as those practicing Confucianism. These religions are focused on the balance of nature, the balance of light and dark. Many of the temples are constructed with the idea of Feng Shui , wherein the environment or space that one occupies is also focused on balance of one’s surroundings and the flow of energy. Worship of the ancestors is an essential aspect and many of the ceremonies and rituals are tributes to the dead, wherein in living make offerings to the dead. These particular religions have doctrines and beliefs that inter-mix with each other.

There is also a relatively large population of Muslims in the city, with homelands such as India, China and Malaysia. Hindus fleeing India make up a percentage. And now, various denominations of the Christian faith are becoming more popular. In fact recently it has been noted that the Christian faith is among the four most practiced on the island. And in keeping with the tenants of each religion, as stated before, the people combine aspects and respect those of different ideas and beliefs. Religion is part of the every day modern world for those living in Singapore.

The environmental group in Majorca, Oceana, has been conducting research in the waters surrounding the island. The have collected samples from over 300 species and about 15 different ecosystems. The expansion of a wellness resort and spa, with golf courses and conference rooms and 5 star hotel Majorca residents are worried that this will upset not only the diverse and abundant life just under the water but the plant life and wildlife that will be affected by the golf courses. They members of Oceana and the environmentally concerned locals fear that it will only get worse, as the wetlands and natural grass has been already negatively affected. They are making a desperate plea to the marine reserve there, El Toro to expand the area that should remain protected, the prohibiting future development in the area.

In the waters just east of the protected land, many species of coral have been found using under water robots. Coral that is already in danger of becoming extinct. Also found was a rare form of seaweed, calcified and not rooted in the sea floor, which provides home and habitat for many different species, and contributes to the wealth of this marine biodiversity. Laminaria, the most abundant species of algae in the Mediterranean is abundant but was seriously damaged with the trawling of the under water nets. And in amongst these species of underwater plant life, the robot found abundant trash. Garbage such as plastic bags, tires and lawn chairs. Thus leading to a call for further expansion of the reserve to protect the waters and the ocean floor gardens from fisherman. What is being proposed is an underwater scuba park in the waters between Ibiza and Majorca. This would insure growth in the tourism industry, will protecting and preserving the environment and the life that lives in that environment.

A Time and Place for Tattoos

For those who get a tattoo, the decision rarely comes easily. Many times an individual has thought about the ups and downs and ins and outs for up to six months or more before making the decision to follow through. In addition to everything else, one must also decide what types of tattoos he or she is most interested in. Because tattoos have become so mainstream, it is not unheard of or unreasonable to want something that is fairly unique. It can take months at a time to find just the right design and few people actually go with anything extensive their first time out.

Most commonly, females opt for small fairy tattoos or something similarly delicate while men opt for eye catching Celtic tattoos. In either case, the tattoo is usually placed somewhere that is easy to cover, such as the upper arm or back. When opting for such things as Chinese or Japanese characters, one needs to do a great deal of research to make sure they get the right character. Once a design is chosen, individuals will then need to do more research to locate a reputable tattoo artist. A reputable tattoo artist is one who will willingly discuss what an individual has in mind and offer any further perspectives before getting started.
