Executives Making use of Social Media

Business | Posted by admin
Dec 20 2011

The internet has radically changed the way that companies and individuals do business. In the digital age, leading executives are no longer chained to their desk. Now, they take their work wherever they go, making use of laptops, tablets, and smart phones to keep in constant contact with their employees, clients, directors, and vendors. New executives quickly learn that it is not enough to check their email regularly or to master video conferencing apps and cloud collaboration on files and projects. They need to learn to utilize social media in order to stay on top of their game.

There are essentially two reasons to use social media sites at this level of management. The first is reputation. Any executive needs to recognize that they are a brand. Their name is not just closely associated with their company’s brand; it is the cornerstone of their professional and personal reputation. A strong personal brand can only enhance the company brand, while a bad one can have a negative effect on the company’s performance. They also need to remember that when it’s time to move to another company, their personal brand will play a key role in finding their next position.

Social media allows executives to create a public identity that is separate from their company, though usually aligned with company values. Careful use of twitter and other micro-blogging sites can build something of a character profile for individual, including real estate executives like @daniel_drimmer . Journalists, customers, and potential employers can easily access tweets. The right blend of personal content with professional, expert comments can create a solid brand name.

The second reason to use social media is networking. This includes the professional networking that comes from using LinkedIn or industry and professional social media. But there is a second type of networking, that of conversing with customers and potential customers. Having an active and detailed profile on sites like Facebook (see Daniel Drimmer for an example), allows executives to get feedback from the general public, including brand advocates of their company and products. Executives should also encourage their employees to follow them on social media sites, as part of the digital “open door” policy.

Ultimately this means that today’s executives need to be aware of everything they are doing in public — and the public realm includes all activities on the internet. Handling social media properly and professionally will prove an invaluable tool in both their current position and in the overall career trajectory.

Outsourcing and Stress Management

Business | Posted by admin
Nov 24 2011

The world seems to be changing and time seems to be flying by faster now than ever before. There are plenty of spiritually oriented belief systems that will incorporate these elements into their perspectives, meanwhile the reality is that technology is greatly affecting the world in which we live. This is not intended to mitigate the relevance of spiritual belief systems, but rather to unite the two. Or, that is, to offer a unification theory , which is much simpler than the one between quantum mechanics and the theory of relativity. However, for the humble intention here, the point is to recognize that in addition to the changing ways in which we live our lives, the manner in which we conduct our business is also changing, almost on a daily basis.

There are numerous ways in which technology changes the way we manage our businesses, though there are few which affect our stress levels so much as quality data management systems. The manner in which we structure our consumer data application has changed greatly, and very rarely does the need exist for the business owner or manager to sit and struggle through the night over numbers, demographic statistics and various other consumer information. This is an image that has been a traditional aspect of business ownership and is currently fading to the permanent archaic file. Meanwhile, companies exist that partner with businesses and remove the stress of data management from the owner’s responsibilities. Marlabs partners are an excellent example of effective data management relationships with state of the art system creations.

Regardless of the field or size of a business, the importance of data management exists and expands the simple tracking of purchases and consistency. Having a quality storage, management and use of consumer data is essential to the continued growth and success of most companies. Outsourcing can be an economic factor for companies, which is the initial perspective, though it also eliminates a major stress potential. And there are some great videos about outsourcing that emphasize this potential. As technology continues to change the way we do business, it also changes the structure of many companies. There are specialized fields in existence today that weren’t here a decade ago. Partnerships and available resources are in place that put experts and qualified professionals at the helm of many areas in your business. Don’t let your data management fall behind the times, when having a solid professional system in place can affect your day to day functioning as well as help determine your future success and growth.

The Importance of Information Technology in Today’s Workplace

Sep 02 2011

In order for a business organization to remain competitive in today’s marketplace, there is a reliance on the ever-expanding role of information technology. In order to have a successful career in IT, one must be proficient in at least five key areas:

  • Application of Technology in Problem Solving
  • Awareness of Technology and Business Advancements
  • Strong, Effective Team Building
  • Continually Increased Skill Sets
  • Communicating Goals and Expectations

Learning to apply technological solutions to problems requires the ability to assess current scenarios and understand where weakness and shortfalls may exist. Fully defined challenges will lead the IT professional towards the solutions and required technology to make the answers happen.

In order to be fully versed in potential end-game solutions, it is important for the successful professional to maintain a finger on the pulse of technology in general. Specifically, understanding how ones industry and the advancements of competitive businesses affect current operations is another important trait to learn and cultivate.

With so much available in the world of information technology, it is hard to imagine any single individual having all the answers. This, then, suggests the need for a team of individuals with strengths in various disciplines of IT.

The successful IT manager will understand the value of having such a team in place. More importantly, these leaders have a thorough understanding of exactly what their organization needs and will be able to find the most qualified candidates for team membership. It is important for the IT team leader to know enough about various technologies to maintain authority of those they are in charge of.

This would indicate the importance of continuing to build ones own skills in various technologies as well exploring how to best train others. Collaborative interactions are a daily part of most team’s work and those hoping to become successful IT professional leaders need to be well versed in various collaboration styles.

Helping to facilitate the best working environment for team members is an important aspect of being team leader. As such, it would behoove anyone considering such a career choice to become an authority on collaboration and team building skills.

Continuing to develop ones core technical education is important as a team member in another way, as well. Authority can be established by those with knowledge and experience in specific areas. As a leader, the more information and skills that can be obtained, the better ones chances of being taken seriously. This respect is important when challenges arise and problem solving is the immediate goal of the team. Get a information technology degree online .

Putting together the best team is important. Having those team members take their leader seriously is paramount for the successful resolution of any number of serious challenges they might face.

The onus for effective communications falls to the IT professional leading the team. Once the leader best understands how the team learns, communicating new goals and objectives clearly and with resolve is one of the most important leadership qualities the team head can display.

As demonstrated, the technical side of information technology is an important part of the career path. But there is much more. Learning effective communication skills, and out-of-the-box problem solving is just as important as knowing the latest technology advances and business solutions.

Ultimately, it is the leader’s ability to formulate the best team time and budget provides for creating. Once everyone has a place and role in the problem solving mechanism, the IT professional can push the entire organization’s presence forward towards its overall business objectives.

Local Focus with Another View

Business | Posted by admin
Aug 26 2011

The trend toward acting locally and thinking globally is one that some consider to have reached a peak a long time ago.  This might indeed be the case, as it does seem to echo a kind of 90’s sensibility toward looking at the bigger picture.  At the same time, it also seems to be remarkably useful and very current, if not urgent.  Local focus is something that has had an appeal for small businesses for a long time, and could be argued to be at the heart of nearly any money-making enterprise.

It’s not really a surprise then, when companies do get rewarded for their efforts, especially when there is a strong and powerful focus on the place.  In this way, when one hears that Nextdayblinds has been awarded Angie’s List Super Service Award, it makes perfect sense to those in the know.  Some communities and neighborhoods are harder to tap into than others, and for places like Rockville, there are multiple challenges.

Anywhere on the east coast (versus the west, or the midwest), there are struggles that are specific to the demographic.  Not everyone comes from a long line of east coast residents here, but there is more of a sense of history.  There is also a kind of discerning capability here that is rather unique to the populace.  These both add up to a line of difficulties for any business that is not aware of time and place.

Another quality that is specific to companies like Rockville next day blinds is its focus on style.  Knowing the audience is an important element for any business, and this becomes even more apparent when one is working in a place with a strong sense of community.  It’s not only the general consensus that informs the sense of style, it’s also a fierce and independent nature that is constantly asking questions and otherwise evaluating.

Business trends are temporary and unstable by their very nature, but there are some things that come around with a new name, but the essence of their spirit remains essentially the same.  Acting locally in Rockville might sound like a new idea, but it’s one that has informed cities all up and down the coast for a number of generations now.  It’s an ethos that works, serving both its client-base along with the small business owner, in equal measure.

Healthcare Office Equipment

Business | Posted by admin
Jan 13 2011

Anyone who has ever worked in a medical office, clinic, or other healthcare provider will be familiar with the amount of equipment needed in order to properly diagnose and treat patients. It starts with the same basic technology that any office requires, computers, telephones, and printing, copying and faxing capabilities. However, it’s the medical equipment that can present a financial problem. Diagnostic and lab equipment can quickly add up to tens of thousands of dollars. As a result, many health care offices choose medical equipment leasing rather than purchasing the tools outright.

There’s actually an advantage to leasing over buying such equipment as ultrasound and x-ray machines and blood analyzers. Technology does not sit still. Newer, better, faster versions are in constant development. As with computers and cars, sometimes the newly purchased equipment is outdated within weeks of it being purchased. Leased medical equipment can be swapped out for the latest model once the current lease expires. That’s much easier than having to sell equipment at a used price and find the balance needed to purchase the new version.

It’s not just doctors that can benefit from leasing medical equipment. Companies lease equipment to physical therapy and rehab clinics, dental offices, and even offer specialized equipment for surgeons and ophthalmologists offering laser eye surgery.

Search Engine Ranking Pages Gone Bad

Business | Posted by admin
Jan 05 2010

Marketing means a lot of effort and time put into a campaign for a company to improve and increase their visibility in a market.  Part of the way companies improve and increase business, especially in the online world, is though online reputation management.  Companies can be wrecked in a matter of hours by an angry employee or cranky customer who feels that they have been mistreated, regardless of whether or not those people have real reason to be offended or hurt or not.  The internet does not judge whether something is right or right, fair or unfair.  It judges based search engine results, good keywords, and quality content.  So while you’re company might be in the number one position for a certain keyword or grouping of keywords, it might not necessarily be for anything good.

SERPs, as search engine ranking pages are otherwise known as, have expanded in other ways too that can be damaging for a company.  YouTube and blog sites have search engines as well.  It’s not simply the old standbys people commonly think of, such as Google.  And these negative results can make a detrimental mark on any company’s online reputation and brand.  For a company that has the majority of its business online, it is vital they understand how manipulate search engines to their advantage, especially when a customer hurting their reputation has no founded reasons for trying to destroy them.

Part of what a company must do is monitor certain things online constantly. Constant vigilance is key.  Its brand, obviously, is very important to monitor, but also the company and the people who make up the company: its executives and its employees.  When searching out bad news in search engines, it’s a good idea to include other keywords in your search that are probably inflammatory, such as sucks or scammed, but will allow you to know where you stand on the internet.  Blogs and social media sites like MySpace and Facebook are prime places where customers or employees can try to take a company down.  This is all a part of online reputation management and search engine optimization services.  It helps companies to understand what problems might exist and thusly what they need to do fix them.

Fearless and Friendly

Dec 22 2009

Being able to walk through the world without fear is an important strategy for living an effective life.  It’s very likely that there are few truly useful things that fear can do for us, because it seems to be a holdover from a fight-or-flight mentality that has not been necessary since we started the first civilization.  It was perhaps a very necessary tool in the time of the saber-tooth tiger, but all too often comes in only at the most inappropriate moments, and hinders us more than it helps.  However, the instinct is still there, and of course, for anyone who’s ever lived in the world at all, that instinct is very strong.  It rises up at the first sign of conflict, no matter how slight.

There are many different practices that can help us to overcome fear, and most of these seem to suggest the same thing.  We can only get accustomed to it by learning how we respond personally, and that’s only possible in real life situation.  Sales training can be one very effective, and very useful, ways of dealing with our own responses to conflict.  Conflict here can be something as small as a minor disagreement with a co-worker, or even the first moments of the dreaded cold call.  However, by understanding certain principles, and having real experience, we can turn the thing that used to stop us into something that in fact can help us.

It’s a good thing that instincts are so strong, because they do help us to remember how we’re designed, and help us to understand how other people behave.  In taking real life situations, and practicing them in employee training, we are also giving our team a leg up in the world, so that they can be more efficient in the work place, and learn skills that transfer into the everyday world as well.  In theory, reason should be enough to overcome instinct, but perhaps we occasionally need to refresh ourselves on ways to become more reasonable.

Customer Service at the Eye Doctor

Optometry is a field that requires great attention to customer service. It is one of the fields that demands that excellent customer service begin with the introduction to the client and continue with them throughout the service. This is because great attention to the client’s response to all aspects of the exam experience, including details on personal disclosure, are essential to providing the best eye care available and proper proscription glasses and contacts. Every busy has a specific orientation to the needs of their customer and being able to focus in on areas that are particularly important are essential. Steven Barbarich is absolutely aware of this and believes that attention to excellent customer service is part of the essence of a company.

As with any medical or health related field including dentistry, there can be an element of anxiety faced by the consumer when seeking services. This is something that should be remembered by the staff the initially greets a patient or customer as they walk through the door, or call to schedule an appointment. By providing a friendly voice, a smile when acknowledging the customer can go a long way to calm them and initiate a positive experience. In regards to optometry, receptionists may feel that this is a simple exam process and customers have not worries or concerns about it, other than picking the perfect designer frame. However, this is not or even usually the case, and many people have concerns about various eyes issues, such as cataracts and glaucoma, and this can cause them some anxiety over a visit. With any business, it is important to remember that excellent customer service begins with the client’s first interaction with the company, however, all industries should be aware of the various elements that may be at work on a consumer before they make first contact.

Social Networking Changing the Face of Marketing

Sep 21 2009

The growing popularity of social media and networking has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent times. One can hardly listen to a news story, watch a TV program or listen to the radio with out hearing about Twitter or Facebook. The explosion of this phenomena has been incredible and mind boggling. Facebook began with marketing to college students. A way for them to stay connected to each other close by or far away, the application became very popular across college campuses very quickly. The application was then discovered by the rest of the country. The number of users have exploded from tens of thousands of college students to millions and millions of users of all ages and from all over the world. Today Facebook boasts over three hundred million active users, fifty percent of which log on to Facebook at least daily and users over 35 years of age are the fastest growing demographic. This popularity has given way to many businesses such as Transglobe property management. More companies are using these networks to communicate to their clients, offer information to perspective clients and keep up with the quickly changing market place.

Along with Facebook has come a fairly new comer to the social media and networking is the micro blog site Twitter. Twitter simply asks the user what are you doing now? and gives the user 140 characters or less to communicate their message. Twitter too has experienced explosive growth in users going from hundreds to thousands to millions and now tens of millions of users of the application. Companies new and old are jumping on the Twitter band wagon. Twitter is a perfect platform to monitor what may be being said bout you or your company as well as a way to communicate now information, again Transglobe property management has jumped on the band wagon too. With the major demographic segment  using Twitter being between 45 and 54 years old what better way to target a market segment with the information you want them to see.

Anti-Money Laundering Investigations Unveil the iPod Scam

Business, Economy | Posted by admin
Sep 14 2009

Money laundering happens.  And it is not just the big mythical sort of men like Al Capone or the Mexican Drug Cartel, it happens in small towns and cities across the United States, with people running small scams, small scams which add up to large amounts of money being laundered on a daily basis.  Anti-money laundering investigations are currently being conducted in just about every city, and one such case involved the prosecution of a man in Grand Rapids, Michigan just a few weeks ago.

Originally from Kalamazoo, Nicholas A. Woodhams recieved, on August 25th, a thirteen month sentence in prison.  He was also fined $648,568, which is to be paid to the Apple Computer Corporation, as restitution for a scam involving the iPod. He is also to pay the United States Postal Service just over $8,000.  Woodhams case involved money laundering and mail fraud.  He managed to guess serial numbers of the devices that were still under factory warranty.  He then went to the web site created by Apple for their return program, each time assuming a different identity, for a different “customer”, claiming to have a broken or a malfunctioning iPod.

During the time between March of the year 2006 and October of 2007, he managed to get the Apple corporation to send him more than nine thousand replacement iPods, which he received in a post office box he rented from the US Postal Service.  What did Woodhams do with these iPods?  He sold them, of course, at a fraction of the retail value offered in stores.  And not only that, when he shipped them to the people who ordered them from his website, he used counterfeit stamps and postage which he created using software on photo finishing.

This is what originally captured the attention of the Postal inspectors.  He laundered more than two hundred thousands dollars of the proceeds from his iPod sales through a Michigan based financial institution to a Missouri brokerage firm.  On top of the fines, the restitution and the jail time, he forfeited about 3/4 of one million dollars he had tucked away, his home, his everyday-use-car, an Audi,  and his race car, an Atom Two by Ariel, his motorcycle and more than five hundred thousand dollars in cash.  A brilliant scheme, that fell to the intense and the thorough investigative teams that are out and about right now fighting corruption on every level.

The Rate of Foreclosures Increases in the Month of July

Business, Economy | Posted by admin
Sep 01 2009

Recently there have been many ups and downs in the real estate market, and some of them are happening concurrently.  The purchases of homes by first time buyers, did show an overall jump nation wide during the month of July, however the other side of the coin is that some cities are experiencing that the loans for homes are failing at a terrible pace.  This was recorded also for the month July, and it is happening despite the many state and federal programs that were created to avoid the growing number of foreclosures.

This leaves the economy severely affected as well as have extremely detrimental circumstances for the housing industry.  Records have shown that during this last month in various cities throughout the sunbelt, such as the Texas town of Denton, foreclosure proceedings have increased by seven percent during the month of June, thirty two percent higher than the numbers from last year.  This past month gives evidence that for every three hundred and fifty home owners, one has been foreclosed on.  This rate is keeping in time with the number of auctions, repossessions and default notices, and is continuing to escalate with the rising unemployment rate in the United States.  This is the third such jump in the past five months in the activity of foreclosures.

This all comes at a time when the programs developed by the government have been created as the safety net for homeowners who are having difficulty, both the first notices of the default have risen in number as well as the actual repossessions that have taken place.  The tracking of these numbers began in 2005, and this last months jump has broken records, with more the three hundred and sixty thousand households nationally, going through foreclosure.  It seems that it is getting harder and harder for people to make their payments on time, as wages keep getting cut and many people are still continuing to get laid off.

The Importance of Diversity in the Business World

Business | Posted by admin
Aug 24 2009

For many who have not taken part in a management training program, they may have the misconception that diversity means that a company will hire people of inferior skills, talent, and quality in the name of meeting hiring quotas.  But this is as stated, a misconception.

Over many years, companies have discovered just how valuable a diverse business team, and how this has been associated with the success in not only a cooperative and interactive team, but one in which proves to have that success in the completion of long term goals.  It seems that it should be common sense, that awareness training should not be necessary, but it is a valuable tool in understanding just how much that diversity is necessary.

Having a team made up of people with varied skills, those skilled in organizational development, leaves options open for project managers.  When teams cooperate and share positive relationships with each, the company profits.  It is necessary for managers to keep the diversity in mind while hiring new employees, as it is a human tendency to hire those who are similar.  While this may be good in terms of relationships, it could prove detrimental in the long run.

Biases must be paid attention to and disregarding if a managers true goal is the gathering together of a diverse and multi-talented team.  This awareness serves to increase the capability of making more informed and thoughtful decisions.  Too much of the same thing–too many similar ideas and thought processes may result in new and exciting ideas being overlooked or just not thought of in the first place.

Different opinions create open dialogue and tend to spur creative outputs, and outcomes.  Clients are different, and there are different needs to be met depending on which client one is working on a given time, and so should the team be different, qualified, but different and individual.

Avoid stress at work

Business | Posted by admin
Jul 20 2009

Stress is probably the number one sickness in the United States today. We can’t sleep because we are stressed out that we cannot keep our deadlines. We wrack our brains trying to get everything done before we go to bed. We have family commitments and on top of all of this we are trying to get to the gym as well. This can be a recipe for a burnout, and fast.  They don’t necessarily teach you how to manage stress at those corporate team building events.

One thing that can alleviate job stress is to take your vacation time! Americans are known for having little vacation time in the first place, and then on top of that they don’t seem to take the few days they have. Getting away from work is something that everyone should do for at least a week once a year. The problem is, with the Blackberry and IPhone, workaholics have trouble actually stepping away from the office and turning off their electronic devices.  Do your best to take an actual vacation. Even if you just stay home and relax. Enjoy your local culture.

Another way you can feel less stressed about your job is to know exactly what you are required to do and when it needs to get done. Too often people try to take on too much and are left with too much work and not enough time.  Don’t take on the management development seminar, if you already have a big project due at the end of the week.

The number one thing that will help you not have such a stressful work environment is to be organized. Have your months planned out on a calendar so that you know when work needs to be done. Do your best to not procrastinate.  Trying to get too much work done at once is very likely to drive you insane.

Search engine optimization is important

Search engine optimization is a way to increase organic traffic to your website. This is done because people searching on the internet usually click on the highest results in a search engine. And if you want to make your site rank higher for a particular word, you should consider search engine optimization services.

Search engine optimization, or SEO for short focuses on how people search for information on the internet.  And companies offering this internet marketing service may offer this as their only service, or as part of a bigger marketing strategy. This is because it can require changes to HTML and other things that other types of marketers do not have a grasp of.

Another branch of search engine optimization services is online reputation management. Online reputation management services can be done in some firms that also offer search engine optimization.  It is important for businesses that are looking to maintain their business plan on the internet.  Just as it is important to maintain your business reputation in the public and the media, it is becoming increasingly important to do this online as well.

For example, if someone searches Chicago Web development and you are a web development firm located in Chicago, the way to get your business to the top of those search engine results is a combination of search engine optimization and online reputation management.

Bottom line of these types of services is that they are used to drive web traffic and in turn business, to your website.  These services are important to maintaining an online business plan and making it a successful one.

Everyone wants their business to be the best it can be and with these types of services your business can become even more internet savvy and ready to find a whole new set of customers.

A career in pharmaceutical sales

Business, Employment | Posted by admin
Jun 01 2009

Pharmaceutical sales is a highly competitive field. It is next to impossible to penetrate the industry unless you have sales training and experience. But if you are looking for a career change it may be a good place to look for opportunities. Pharmaceutical companies sometimes look outside of pure sales professionals in those with degrees in other vocations.

If you have a degree in anything scientific it’s a good tip to look to pharmaceutical sales as another career source for opportunities. Also if you have good customer service training or prior management training it is wise to look into this career.

A good place to look for a job in pharmaceutical sales is to go to individual company’s websites. Don’t just rely on job boards. A lot of the pharmaceutical sales jobs on job boards can be a scam or require you to sign up for some kind of certification or group fee.

Most people want to get into pharmaceutical sales because it is a very lucrative career. Most representatives make not only a base salary but also bonuses and are sometimes provided with a company car.

It’s not all roses however; most pharmaceutical representative work requires a lot of working from your car, and not necessarily having a home base. And a lot of event planning of sorts.

Out going people with sales training are usually the ones that thrive in the atmosphere that pharmaceutical sales provides. But showing a willingness to learn and an interest in the company’s product can be helpful as well.

As with any sales job you have to be passionate and have drive. Pharmaceutical sales Is just a sales job that can be very lucrative right off the bat, you may also even have a way to go out on your own in the future.

Just another thing to consider if you are job hunting, good luck! And try to stay positive!

The Alliance of Southeast Asian Countries

The relationship between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and China is creating incredible bonds and a symbiotic understanding that will further promote solutions regarding the international economic crisis. It also serves to to maintain stability in all Asian countries, something that current Prime Minister of Singapore, LeeHsien Loong stated at a conference a couple of days ago. This is no doubt a reflection of his mentor and predecessor to his title, who also happens to be his father, Lee Kuan Yew. The former Prime Minister has stated on many occasions the inter-relation between a countries survival in the international climate, and the allies and ‘friends’ the country has made along the way. These shared concerns between administrations serve to not only bring the various leaders together but, businesses such as the luxury Singapore travel and tourism industry, and the people living in those countries as well. And not only ideological ties are created but financial ones too.

One major ideological tie is that of Trades in Goods Agreement, the terms of this agreement and those of other agreements made during the new millennium, ensure not only continued cooperation between the countries of Southeast Asia, but in communication on a regular basis between the countries and their leaders. Lee states that this is a condition that must endure for future economic stability and progress, and is quite responsible for the maintenance of peace as well. China has also entered into a treaty that commits all involved to promoting cooperation, peace and friendship between the regions, ensuring resolutions to conflicts in peaceful and responsible ways. What is starting amongst the Asian communities is growing strong and Prime Minister Lee hopes that in the future, other countries will become involved. South Korea and Japan have joined Singapore and China in this mission.

Recent Corporate Games in Dubai a Success

The 4th Annual Dubai Corporate Games were held last weekend at the American University in Dubai. The event, which concluded on Sunday, is designed to “promote health and wellness among the local corporate community.” The Games are organized by High 5 Events FZ LLC of Dubai Media City and this year’s conducted under the patronage of the Dubai Sports Council.

The games were attended by 30 multinational corporations as well as numerous local firms. Nearly 900 athletes gathered to compete in events such as volleyball, soccer, tennis, dragon boat, and the intercompany tug of war. The games also included competitions in basketball, running, and swimming.

The two companies with the overall best finishes were Aramex and The Holding Group. Awards were handed out during an award ceremony on Sunday. Sponsors of this year’s Games included Nestle, Sony Ericsson & TECOM Investments, ITP Aujan Industries, Choueiri Group, and AUD.

Over the last decade Dubai has made changes to tax laws and import restrictions to encourage foreign business. Many multinational corporations moved into the area to take advantage of the virtually tax-free business environment. The emirate’s reputation for hospitality makes it an easy sell for foreigners coming to the area on business. It is easy to find a 5 star Dubai hotel that has all the cutting edge technology and business services that corporate travelers need when setting up business in the UAE.

The Corporate Game provide an atmosphere of casual interaction and friendly competition that encouraged networking, especially among executives, while helping to build company teamwork. It also provides an opportunity for companies to boost their morale — especially when a team is winning.

The Waters Surrounding Mallorca, Spain

Illegal fishing, water traffic, tourism. These human activities are providing detrimental effects on the reason people travel to this area of the Mediterranean in the first place. Beautiful days of sunshine, over 300 to approximate, clear blue waters perfectly suited for scuba diving and snorkeling, un-touched mountains for hiking and white sand beaches create quite a draw for the rest of the world, to this area. And while this is all good for the economy of the places to stay and of island hotels, and is good for the people living here and making a living, the oceans and the marine life are being affected. In a bad way. Of the pollution for example, not emissions from the water sport vehicles nor the cruise ships, but plastic makes up about 75 percent in the waters of the sea. 95 percent of that plastic-pollution is in the way of simple plastic bags. Plastic bags! The writer of this would perhaps find this an incredulous claim had she not seen this first hand, not in the Mediterranean Sea, but in the Sea of Cortez off the coasts of the Gulf of Mexico and the Baja Strip of California, the city of San Felipe in Mexico. Beautiful warm waters, secluded from oil tankers, teaming not with marine life, but market place plastic bags. One should really consider the effects when asked ‘Paper or Plastic’ at the local grocery store. Or better yet, say ‘neither, I’ve brought my own’.

Anyway, the governments of the over twenty European countries have come together to save the sick Mediterranean Sea. The Spanish Island of Mallorca is among the first to install energy saving light bulbs in all of the traffic lights on the island. When all the electricity used on the island, in the clubs and the shops and the resorts switch over, we’ll talk. The transition to these bulbs in the traffic signals alone will reduce carbon emissions by 2,000 tons. Just the traffic lights.

With all the financially successful ports and fishing companies that run along the coasts of Europe, this is a huge task to take on, but one that is so important. Many species that inhabit these waters, migrate and reproduce are in danger of extinction. Regardless of one’s own belief system of the cruelty towards the ‘lesser’ species, they play a part in the whole. ‘When a butterfly flutters its wings in China’ is a statement that comes to mind. Every species is part of the whole, and a part necessary in the continuation of the existence of all life forms and the world as we know it and have come to love it.

The Swiss banking industry appears to be in a crisis as outlined in this BBC article:

In Zurich’s central square trams rumble past the tourist stalls doing a gentle trade in Swiss souvenirs.

But while local chocolate, miniature cuckoo clocks and pen knives are still proving popular in the summer sunshine, another icon of Swiss identity is desperately trying to hold onto its good name.

As the credit crunch has bitten over the past year, the country’s two largest banks, UBS and Credit Suisse, have between them been forced to write down almost $50 billion (£25bn).

For a country that has built its name on its cautious and dependable nature, the events of the last 12 months have come as a shock to many in Switzerland. Read more….

Sales and customer relations go hand in hand. That is why it is important to know how to deal with existing clients and potential clients. Not only will a vast knowledge of training help any business, it will help you in your every day life.

I have a business that is based in Minnesota and I have several branches throughout the country. My people needed sales training Minneapolis and sales training in North Dakota, which is one of the branches. I found that productivity increased after the training was complete and we kept our existing customers.

I think next I’ll have the managers go through leadership training in Minneapolis. If that is successful I will have all of my managers enroll in the same course.

Without good customer relations and good managers, my company would fall apart.
