India Has Beautiful Beaches and Great Cultural Heritage

Bob and Carole have been avid travelers since the youngest of their four children left home for college. They spend at least a month in a new country every summer and each summer they argue over where they’re going to go. The first year was the worst due in part to the newness and freedom of the whole thing and also because they both felt just a little displaced without having a house full of kids to look after. Just a year ago they argued over whether or not to visit Spain or Germany and each of them was passionate about his and her chose.

Oddly, as this summer approached it was not so much the country as to the specific region within it that they would visit that caused the most discussion. Bob and Carole agreed that they would love to visit India, but the country is so vast and diverse that each of them thought of different regions to explore. And as each one stated their argument and new city was brought to mind and put on the table.

It is actually pretty easy to see their difficulty. Carole was extremely attracted to Goa and was eager to spend her days on the beautiful beaches for which it is known. Bob liked this idea but was more attracted to the urban aspect of one of the India 5 star hotels in Delhi. He was also extremely interested in visiting some of the beautiful temples in and near Delhi as well as the historic forts that are found there. At about the time Bob was extolling the significance and intrigue of the Red Fort Carole suggested they spend their time Mumbai where they could visit the Jehangir Art Gallery as well as the Elephanta Caves, which she was eager to explore. Ultimately Bob got to have the final word because he reminded Carole that she ended up getting her choice last year when they went to Berlin.

4 Star Hotel Upgrade Makes Us Happy

Oct 27 2009

We just got so luck to be upgraded to a four star New York hotels today. We had a horrible time getting here. Seemed like everything that could go wrong today did and I thought a couple of times we were not going to be making the flight and getting to New York today.

It all started this morning when I got up to find the cat had thrown up all over the living room carpet the night before. It nearly made me sick as I stepped into a big pile of it in my bare feet on the way to the kitchen to get some coffee. Well off to a great start I thought. I know the cat knows we are going away today and this all his plan at some revenge! Well after cleaning up the mess I was running a little behind, but not bad everything else should be OK.

Well then the next shoe fell. When I went out to put the bags in the car to head to the airport the back passenger tire was flat. Flat to the ground, dead flat, no hope in pumping it back up so there I was changing a tire before heading to the airport. I got that done and got myself cleaned up from changing the tire, got the bags in the car and headed to the airport. Now we are running a little latter than I like.

Arriving at the airport we got the car parked after some delays in traffic and now it was less than an hour before the flight takes off so I was thinking we just might not make it if something else goes wrong.

To make a long story short after a brief scare that we forgot the plane tickets, but did find them we go on the flight and made it to New York as planned. The we get to our hotel where we have our reservations and found out they had given our room away. Even tho we had reserved it with a credit card. Well after some arguing and the desk clerk making phone calls we find ourselves in a beautiful 4 star hotel a nice upgrade from the previous hotel and at no additional expanse to us.

Hot Tub Models to Suit All Interests and Needs

In previous decades having a backyard pool was rather rare and considered to be a luxury item that reserved for a select few wealthy families. However, in the last twenty years private ownership of pools has greatly increased and has become common for many middle-income homes to have them. A very similar trend has happened with home hot tubs. These were once considered to be the domain of a sophisticated and luxurious lifestyle that really didn’t have a place in the home or budget of the average working class family.

However, thanks in part to the tremendous progress of hot tub technology and the diverse collection of designs and companies that sell them, the cost of a hot tub purchase has decreased to the point that most families can afford to install them if they choose. In addition, the amount of various features that are included with certain models as well as those that can be added to most hot tubs makes them suitable for all lifestyles and personal interests or needs.

Choosehottubsdirect.com is one of the online companies that is well aware of the diverse nature of consumers for their equally diverse product and is more than willing to help match hot tubs with families. Some of the standard features that are included with many models are popular with most customers. These include high quality stereo systems and complex lighting features. Regardless of the type of music that one may wish to have playing while they are enjoying a dip in the hot tub, music itself is one of the single most highly desired features. Not only can it create or enhance a backyard barbeque party mood it can also establish a meditative ambiance for a more personal and therapeutic experience. Whatever the personal preferences for a family or individual are, there is a hot tub to suit the needs of most or all households.

Traditional South African Food

Oct 22 2009

When traveling through South Africa, there are many choices when it comes to restaurants that type of cuisine.  In the larger cities you may find some very great Chinese places as well as Indian and Italian.  Anything from sushi to a MacDonald’s hamburger and french fries.  But to go to these restaurants often, is a shame, because many of the flavors and the dishes exotic to the Western palate are just to incredible to not experience.

It is my suggestion to find a traditional restaurant, either in the local market, in someones private homes, or in one of the best hotels.  South Africa chefs do often open up their living rooms to tourists and prepare home cooked meals that are full of flavor and spice.  This may not be suitable for everyone, unless you do bring along your sense of culinary adventure.  Some dishes–which will even make some South Africans turn away, include fried grubs and caterpillars, crocodile meat steaks and the heads of goats and sheep.  This is however part of the traditional food in some areas and things like this are eaten throughout the week.

Some of these “strange” food ingredients are used only for certain occasions and celebrations.  But be certain that there are many more less adventurous ways of eating in the country.  One of the staples in the country, for road trips, back pack excursions and rugby matches is something similar to beef jerky.  This is salted and dried meat called biltong.  Babotie is much like Shepherd’s pie, and the traditional South African Barbecue is called Braai.  This is made using a meat sausage made by hand called Boerewors.  Many tourists find this BBQ quite suitable to their palette, their mindset, and often times come back for second helpings.

Through history, the food and the recipes were influenced by what could be hunted, or farmed each day.  But with the travelers who have been coming through the country in the early trade routes, such as the Dutch East India Company and the spices brought from Java, to current times and immigration and tourism, there are have been many factors that have shaped the food of the country.  It would do one’s soul good, to stay away from the MacDonald’s, and go with the local food of South Africa.

Spinner Dolphins on Big island Vacation

Travel | Posted by admin
Oct 21 2009

A top sight of big island vacations is the spinner dolphin.  Also known by its Hawaiian name Nai’I, it has anywhere from about forty-five teeth to about 65 five teeth that are actually quite sharp.  It likes to eat squid, lantern fish, and shrimp among its diet preferences.  They hunt their prey in schools, employing that Flipper screech to locate various members of their group during a diving expedition.  They usually only go deep in the ocean for their food. The deepest they go is around three thousand miles.   Otherwise, these dolphins usually stay nearer to the surface of the water along the chains of the islands in Maui or Kaui.  Vacation packages to the islands are worth their expense because of the chance to see these dolphins.  Watching them come twirling out of the water is a fantastic sight, an absolute must for anyone who comes to Hawaii.

The reason for any dolphin’s popularity, not just the spinner dolphin is playfulness of this species.  They quite loving among their groups and play a lot.  The morning is their typical playtime.  After their fun time, they will take a kind of nap, which really more like a rest, together.  It is not only because they are affectionate, but also for practical reasons.  If they stay together, sharks are less likely to eat them during this period of time when they are vulnerable.  The actual sleep they get is not at all like the kind humans experience.  For one, only small portions of their brain are turned off.  They are not totally unaware.  They also during this rest time keep their whistling down.  As a result, their eyes are very important to them.  For this reason, the dolphins stay in very clear and clean bodies of water along the islands coasts.

The spinner dolphins in other areas do not come up to ships anymore because they have been hunted so viciously.  However, in Hawaii, they have been respected for many years, and have become a kind of emissary species for the island.  For about eight hundred years, the native people of Hawaii have known of these good-natured creatures.  Travel to Oahu or any other island is part of what had made Hawaii a memorable place by their welcoming flips in the air.

Wedding Proposal in Old Town Barcelona

Oct 20 2009

David had been wanting to propose to his girlfriend for, well, truthfully as long as he could remember. They had been dating for six years, and he made the conscious decision to do this three years ago, and had just recently gathered the courage to do so. When he mentioned his story and the timeline to a travel agent over the phone, her response sounded a little amazed. She told him buckle up quickly and take the plunge as six years was quite a long time to date before marrying and quite frankly he was lucky that his girlfriend stuck around that long.

David himself was a little surprised at the agent’s response and explained that they were only twenty-four and had been dating since they were eighteen. He said that they went to different colleges and wanted to finish school before they made any future plans, and honestly neither of them was sure what they really wanted when they were eighteen. The travel agent paused and then laughed before saying she was glad to hear it and had been concerned that David may be lacking a certain quality that she didn’t go into detail about. Then she and David focused on making his proposal plans that included a trip to Spain and a weeklong stay in one of the Barcelona boutique hotels.

The trip ended up being amazing, and was funded in part by both of their parents who considered it to be a belayed graduation present. David and his girlfriend Amy enjoyed the nightclubs and restaurants and thought the local cuisine was fabulous. They went to the museums spent time on the beach. The one thing David hadn’t planned was when exactly he would pop the question. On their third day there they were sitting in a quite little café in Old Town Barcelona. It was slightly raining and they had a small candle lit while they shared a bottle of wine. Suddenly David bent down on one knee and equated their relationship to the beautiful and enduring city of Barcelona. With that he presented the diamond ring and asked Amy to marry him. She smiled, collected a bit of mist in her eyes and said yes.

Art Collector Loves Cuisine in Cape Town Restaurants

Mathew Recently visited South Africa for the first time. He had been interested in traveling there for quite a few years though he didn’t seem to get the chance until six months ago. His main reason for wanting to go is that he is somewhat of an art collector and has been interested in obtaining some works from one of the local artists who lives just outside of the city of Cape Town. When Mathew was finally able to visit the country he was extremely excited and wanted to take in as many of the museum as possible.

Interestingly, while he did find some intriguing paintings that he purchased as well as a couple of masks, one of the aspects of his trip that he was most fascinated with was the food he encountered on his journey. Mathew has never been much of an eater and rarely even has an appetite. In addition, his he was so excited about the trip and the art he would find that he probably could have gone the entire week without anything more than light snacks here and there. It was a chance encounter with one of the painters that introduced Mathew to some flavor sensations he will never forget.

He was scheduled to meet the artist for lunch at the Savoy Cabbage, which he heard was one of the best Cape Town restaurants. He was more interested in getting to know the artist than the food, though he did look at the menu and order something to be polite. And that was all it took. He had the tomato tart, which he unexpectedly and unequivocally loved. He was also completely struck that enjoyed it so much. He then had the house-cured salami, which he was also entirely taken by. He enjoyed his meal so much that he decided he wanted to try more local restaurants and scheduled his future meetings at places he was interested in trying. Mathew knew he loved South African art before the trip, though he did not know he was going to love the cuisine almost most as much as the art.

Blindly Travelling to Adelaide

Travel | Posted by admin
Oct 19 2009

I’m up so early even the birds aren’t singing yet. This will be my last trip before I leave Australia. I’m going to take The Great Ocean Road from Melbourne to Adelaide. I’ve hired a jeep for 3 whole days and I plan to be seeing some of the most amazing sights along the coast.

I crammed everything I have into the jeep and off I went! I wasn’t travelling alone though, no, I met this amazing guy called Mark, he’s 26 and so totally blind! When he asked me if he could tag along for the ride I couldn’t resist. Being with him really made me see things so much better than I normally would’ve. He like how I describe everything we were passing. I was kind of doing what Amelie did in the movie where she grabbed that blind guy and rushed him through the streets explaining everything they were passing.

My first interesting place to drive through was Otway National Park. I got to feed some birds and I spotted a Koala! It was so cute. Then onto Apollo Bay where Mark and I spent about a half-hour soaking up some sun after we ate lunch. I really appreciated how easy it is for my to use a fork and knife. Mark, even though he’s an expert and eating blind, still runs into difficulty. For lunch we both just had to try Shark and chips. After working on our much needed tans, we headed to Bells Beach, which is known for the Surf Championships. There was a spectacular view of the ocean and landscape. I really enjoyed describing Bells Beach to Mark. We spent the night at a local hostel and I ended up doing laundry for 2 dozen people! But, before sunset, I drove Mark to the 12 Apostles. The sunset was beautiful and Mark got to feel a penguin. There were tons waddling all over the beach.

By the time we reached Adelaide, which was very, very late in the evening, I managed to book me a room at one of the Adelaide boutique hotels. Mark, told me he was so grateful for the trip and the descriptions of our journey. He then bib me farewell and headed off down the street. I told him he could share my room with me, but he told he needs to do other things. He wouldn’t tell me what, but I left it at that. I’m telling you, next time you travel, bring along a blind person, they make you see the deep beauty in everything you see and make a trip much more memorable.

Singapore Adventure

Oct 15 2009

I have a 12 hour lay-over in Hong Kong, so I thought I would update my blog about my travels to date. I don’t have capabilities to upload any of my photos, but when I reach Vietnam, I’ll try there.

Singapore was very beautiful. It was humid too. It’s a small country, but it has tons to see and do. I’m not sure why I decided that China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Vietnam are not enough stamps in my passport, but I did, and made a day trip to Indonesia. I’ll have to do an entire new blog just for that excursion.

While in Singapore, I stayed at a Singapore best spas hotel and was thoroughly thrilled with my choice. I felt like a queen. It was hard to leave the luxuries of my hotel, but I did manage to take many bus tours around all the different sights. I took a trip down Orchard Road, which is famous around the world for shopping. I stopped off in the huge Manchester United shop and cafe and went to town with shopping. I did a boat cruise that went around the harbour and I got to see the famous Merlion Statue that guards the harbour. Once there, I ate at a local restaurant that specialized in ‘chili crab’. Was was weird was the Hooters next door, and I could hear all the men whistling at all the pretty tourist women walking by. Sad really.

In the evening, I did the tauted ‘Night Safari’, which was really very good, I thought it might have the potential of being cheesy, but it wasn’t. I attended their creature of the night show and there was someone in the audience (most likely a plant) looking for their lost snake. Yikes! Because the snake was under my chair! Luckily, in a cage!  All this blogging is making me hungry. I’ll be back, so stay tuned.

Hiring practices of Singapore’s Private Banks

Economy | Posted by admin
Oct 15 2009

Considering the Sub-prime crisis and the sharp competition along with increases in cost, the banking industry is changing their game. Private Banks of Singapore are growing cautious with how they recruit their staff. Singapore private banks, due to the effects of the sub-prime crisis are taking a look at just how aggressive they need to be in today’s market concerning the recruitment of new staff.

In Singapore, private banks have soared in the last few years. Assets have grown under better management to approximately $500 billion (US) this year alone. This alone has lead to a shortage of staff and lead to a hiring boom for new potential recruits. They will be offered a irresistible salary, plus in order to keep the established employees they will double the their salary. Recruitment firms were barely able to keep up with the demands of the private banks. But, with the economy still in a down-turn, most private banks have reduced their demands on hiring. Singapore, even though is faring well during the economic down-turn, will implement caution when it comes to their hiring practice.

One reason is because of the intense competition and the high cost to recruit exceptional staff. But, with the collapse of the US sub-prime mortgage market, there isn’t a shortage of qualified potential staff. Most US banks, like UBS, Citigroup and Bank of America had to write down more that $45 billion of assets in the forth quarter of last year. These amounts make other losses, like HSBC’s $3.4 billion, and Barclays’ $1.3 billion, and Credit Suisse’s $2.2 billion Swiss Francs, look small by comparison.

Turmoil at many corporate headquarters will affect the aggressive hiring practices in other parts of the world, especially all the banks hit by the sub-prime fiasco. According to recruitment firms, all major banks around the world have stopped aggressively looking for staff.

Travel in India is always a fascinating experience.  The multiple cultures and languages, and the heartbeats of the different cities, are simply amazing to behold.  Goa has a particularly interesting and complicated history, where the Portuguese occupation left its marks in the architecture and styles, to add another layer of complexity to the place.  It also has some of the most stunning beaches, and natural spaces, in the world.  The city is lively and the night life is particularly fun, and it’s a perfect place for 5 star hotels.  Goa has many layers of mystery, that can’t even begin to unfold, with just one visit.  But one visit can be the experience of a lifetime.

Whether you are looking for a beach to get away from it all, or the city to immerse yourself in another culture, there are many choices for fantastic things to do here.  It’s not required that you pull yourself away from the hotel, which will have many splendid amenities to keep you refreshed and delighted, but it’s a lovely experience if you can get into the local scene here.  One perfect point of entry is the clubs.  There will certainly be many tourists like yourself, and plenty of opportunities to swap travel stories, but you’ll also get a glimpse into India at night.  You’ll no doubt hear plenty about Goa trance, the techno form that was developed here, and is heard in clubs all over the world, and there are plenty of chances to hear the musical stylings that made the beach city famous on the international dance scene.

But if you want to hear some new local stylings, keep an eye and an ear out for DJ JDEE.  This Bangalore native spins in some of the hottest parties in all of India, and currently makes his home in Goa.  He’s had an interesting road to get here, having pursued a future in engineering until the muses of sound grabbed his attention.  He left that all behind to pursue this path, and we’re certainly glad he made the move.  He spins for hot local events like I Love Music, and is stacking up an impressive number of gigs all over the country, as his reputation and legend continues to grow.  Catch him here in Goa.

The History of Pneumatic Tires

Automotive | Posted by admin
Oct 12 2009

Rubber tires came on scene in the middle of the 1800′s. They were not your standard discount tire of today, they were solid rubber not filled with air, and the rubber was the only thing that absorbed the shock of the roads, bore the weight of the vehicle and resisted damage through puncture–they could not be punctured as the had no air–and they could stand up to the abrasions and cuts that the road would sometimes cause. The light truck tires that are now filled with air are known as pneumatic tires. These came about in the early part of 1845.

At the time the solid rubber tires were preferred because of how durable they were. And so the pneumatic, or air-filled tires fell by the wayside. What brought the air-filled tire back into the public eye was not car or truck wheels, but bicycle wheels. By the end of the 1800′s, the bicycle was an extremely popular mode of transportation. During this time, John Boyd Dunlop, a veterinarian from Belfast, took out a patent for the air-filled tires for bicycles. The Michelin brothers, of the now famous tire manufacturing company, pioneered the use of pneumatic tires on vehicles and by 1895 the first car, driven by the brothers, was equipped with tires such as these, raced in the Paris-Bordeaux competition in France.

And although they did not win, they succeeded in creating an interest in their air-filled car tires. They created their first company in France, at a time that was perfectly coinciding with the solid rubber tires being banned, as they tended to wreak havoc on the roadways themselves. Again in Europe, the first steel belted radial tires were introduced to the public in 1948. These steel belts gave a bit more structure and strength to the pneumatic tires, making them more durable and extending the life of the tires. Now tires are such a common place item, but for a few hundred years, they were on the forefront of invention and creativity.

Whether the purpose is business or pleasure, Singapore is one of the most exciting places in the world.  It also ranks very high on the charts for the world’s most livable places, with a thriving economy, quick access to gorgeous natural areas, and a vibrant urban scene that is constantly in motion.  There is something for everyone here, making it a fantastic spot for vacations.  Singapore is a place where art is not just a decoration, but is the rule of the day, and the elegant details really do matter.  Our offerings are excellent choices for the traveler looking for something elegant and unique, in an elegant and unique place.

Singapore has a long history of contact with other cultures, and is itself a fascinating mix of Malay, Indian, and Chinese influences.  The ability to take in and accommodate other cultural ideas has helped to shape its artistic scope.  As a result, the artists here produce some of the most interesting art in the world today.  An excellent case in point is the young dance company, Ah Hock & Penn Yu.  This is a dance collective founded by two Hong Kong-trained dancers, Aaron Khek Ah Hock and Ix Wong Thien Pau, who came to Singapore in 2000.

They’ve done some extraordinary work here, and have won many awards, such as the NAC Young Artist Award in 2005.  Their work is dance-based, but moves smoothly into visual and performance art.  The choreographies take on classical Chinese stories as well as contemporary events, to make comments on contemporary culture in a time of radical change.  The core of the aesthetic is halfway between the spectacle of pop and the practice of restraint.  It is a fantastic combination of grace and kitsch, and the multi-cultural core of dancers are energetic and add a gorgeous and intelligent zest to the contemporary art scene here.

It’s always interesting to come to know a place through its food, and in Singapore the cuisine can tell many stories from its many histories.  As a major port for centuries, there have been many cultural influences here that have worked their way in through the food.  In Singapore, restaurant living is an illustration of its enormously cosmopolitan tastes, which are a reflection of its fascinating history.  You might forget about history altogether, however, when you taste the splendid offerings from our fine selection of restaurants, which contain a fabulous array of tastes and culinary traditions that you can only find in Singapore.

The selections can be very specific to a certain kind of food, such as Italian, or very eclectic, offering local traditions served with a contemporary flair.  Our chefs are some of the finest in the world, and are studied in both classical and state of the art cooking techniques, all designed to dazzle and enchant your taste buds, and offering a culinary glimpse into what Singapore is all about.  And after a splendid meal, you’ll have more opportunities to enjoy the cultural life in Singapore.  There are many exceptional venues to see live performance, such as dance, theatre, and opera, and loads of galleries and museums to keep your hunger for local culture satiated.  There is also a fairly impressive tradition for street performance, or busking, here, and you may find yourself watching b-boys like Amsyar Bin Ramlee.

The 18-year old breakdancer is working currently with Styles from Beyond, and his work is really something to behold.  He was a second runner up at the Pulse Hip Hop Knockout, and his stylings on dance floors and sidewalks are worth watching, as his career is starting to make some spectacular moves.  He performed with his group at the Singapore Street Festival, an event which showcases some of the hottest urban talents in Singapore.  The tradition of street performance in the world is fascinating, and its engagement with the locals and international visitors makes visible another kind of art that happens every day, and in unexpected places.

Optometry is a field that requires great attention to customer service. It is one of the fields that demands that excellent customer service begin with the introduction to the client and continue with them throughout the service. This is because great attention to the client’s response to all aspects of the exam experience, including details on personal disclosure, are essential to providing the best eye care available and proper proscription glasses and contacts. Every busy has a specific orientation to the needs of their customer and being able to focus in on areas that are particularly important are essential. Steven Barbarich is absolutely aware of this and believes that attention to excellent customer service is part of the essence of a company.

As with any medical or health related field including dentistry, there can be an element of anxiety faced by the consumer when seeking services. This is something that should be remembered by the staff the initially greets a patient or customer as they walk through the door, or call to schedule an appointment. By providing a friendly voice, a smile when acknowledging the customer can go a long way to calm them and initiate a positive experience. In regards to optometry, receptionists may feel that this is a simple exam process and customers have not worries or concerns about it, other than picking the perfect designer frame. However, this is not or even usually the case, and many people have concerns about various eyes issues, such as cataracts and glaucoma, and this can cause them some anxiety over a visit. With any business, it is important to remember that excellent customer service begins with the client’s first interaction with the company, however, all industries should be aware of the various elements that may be at work on a consumer before they make first contact.

Discount Tire Shops Have Good Rates on Quality Tires

Automotive | Posted by admin
Oct 01 2009

My friend Sue went with my to buy new car tires the other day and ended up making something of a revelation and also providing me with an interesting story while we waited for them to get installed at the discount tire shop. I have always enjoyed getting new tires because it gives me an extra solid sense of safety and stability. In addition, I always have the alignment checked and if I only buy two, which is commonly the case, I have them rotated.

All of that which I just mentioned seems to be fundamental to tire purchases. Sue’s revelation was much more interesting. As I was telling her that we were at my favorite discount tire sales shop she looked slightly confused before saying that this was a standard tire store that sold real tires. I asked her what she meant by that and she told me that discount tires were sold on the side of the road by various independent gas stations with shops attached. She said that she had a great deal of experience in this and knew what she was talking about because in the past she had stopped more than one of these places before she got her new job. She remembered with pride the first time she went into a real tire store and ordered her brand new tires. She concluded by insisting that this was no discount tire stand.

I chuckled a little at her distinction before telling her that while she may have walked into a tire store and purchased new tires for the first time, she also may have done so in a discount shop. I told her the difference between a discounted price and the used tires that she would purchase along the road. And while there are many quality used tires, it is best to buy them from an establishment that guarantees the quality of the product. I told her and then showed her that the tires that were sold in this shop were actually the best deals on the top name brands of tires, custom truck wheels and rims. I remember this story every time tire purchases are brought up.
